A Journey of Service: My International KKN Experience in Malaysia 🇲🇾
In February to March 2025, I had the privilege of participating in an international Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program in Malaysia for 25 days. What I thought would be a typical community service activity turned out to be a deeply meaningful journey—one filled with life lessons, culture, joy, and unforgettable moments that will forever stay in my heart.
🛫 A Nervous Start, A Meaningful Mission
My journey began with excitement and a hint of anxiety. Leaving my home country to serve in another felt both thrilling and uncertain. But those feelings quickly turned into gratitude as I was welcomed warmly by the local community.
Our early days were spent adapting to the new environment and building connections with local children through our Sanggar Bimbingan (SB), a learning center where we carried out our community programs. It wasn’t always easy, but we gradually earned their trust and enthusiasm.
📚 Programs with a Purpose
Throughout the program, we designed various activities aimed at developing the children’s potential. From Islamic competitions to art performances, we created events that were both educational and engaging.
Two of the most memorable programs were the Adzan Competition and the Islamic Quiz Challenge. These activities not only honed the children’s skills but also gave them the confidence to perform in front of others. Witnessing their growth and bravery brought us a deep sense of fulfillment.
🎠The Night to Remember
The highlight of our KKN was the Cultural Performance Night on our final day at the SB. After days of preparation, the children performed Malay traditional dances, pantomime, and heartfelt songs. The atmosphere became especially emotional when we all sang "Laskar Pelangi" together. Tears flowed freely as we realized this was our farewell. That night was a celebration of effort, love, and unforgettable bonds.
🧍‍♂️ Moments of Regret and Reflection
Despite the joy, there were moments of tough choices. One such moment was when we had to choose between attending a PSPK program or joining an international guest visit featuring global influencers, including Kadam Sidik, a well-known figure. Due to our prior commitments, we could only catch a glimpse of the event. It was a bittersweet moment, but it reminded us of the responsibilities we had embraced.
đź’” A Bittersweet Goodbye
On our last day, we held a farewell session with the children. We exchanged words of gratitude, sang "Sampai Jumpa", and screened a short video capturing our memories—teaching, playing, laughing, and working side by side. Many of the children cried, and so did we. It wasn’t just a goodbye—it was a heartfelt closure to a beautiful chapter.
🙏 What I Learned
This KKN taught me more than any classroom ever could. It taught me about teamwork, responsibility, and empathy. I saw how a supportive community can thrive through cooperation and shared values. I experienced firsthand what it means to serve, to give without expecting anything in return—and yet, to receive so much love, appreciation, and friendship in return.
KKN in Malaysia wasn’t just about giving—it was about mutual exchange. We shared knowledge and culture, but we also received deep wisdom from the people we served. These memories will stay with me as a constant reminder that every step we take in life carries profound meaning.
🚶‍♂️ The Journey Continues
Now that the KKN has ended, a new journey begins. I hope the lessons I’ve learned will continue to shape me into a better person—someone who gives back, learns from every moment, and strives to make a difference. And who knows, maybe one day, I’ll return to Malaysia—with more knowledge, more stories, and a stronger purpose to serve.
Thank you for reading this story. If you're curious about KKN, cultural exchange programs, or want to collaborate, feel free to connect. I'm always open to sharing and learning together. 🌏🤝
